Wasabi paste is derived from the Japanese wasabi plant, belonging to the watercress family, often mistaken for horseradish. It only grows in fields adjacent to or in water and is difficult to grow. Traditionally grated into a paste, the plant’s roots are served as a condiment with sushi, complementing soy sauce and ginger.
